semi-fast

i shared with you guys on friday night that i was considering joining in on the fast that pastor dave and the grx staff is doing, that is, joining to some lesser extent. it's monday now, and the staff is starting a 14-week fast. what i feel i should do is abstain from food except for dinner tonight and tomorrow night with kaela and a lunch appointment i have with an old friend tomorrow. on wednesday evenings, kaela usually eats on her own. well, actually, she now tends to bring me home leftovers, so maybe i'll eat again then, the point being to eat only when it's contributes to time shared with my wife or for that special exception cos i told my friend i'd meet him for lunch on tuesday. this weekend, i ate well, anyway. on saturday, kaela and i had a huge brunch at consuelo's in santana row. we had run into david and helen fong earlier, so they know we were there. anyway, i also attended my friends' indian wedding ceremony that night. those indian weddings sure have an abundance of food. i started thinking that it'd be impossible for me to do any kind of fasting, but pastor dave's message on sunday inspired me:

  1. i should fast in order to allow god to communicate better to me about his purpose, maybe particularly about how i can contribute to the church's effort to serve the community in a greater capacity.
  2. after hearing about the homeless, i realized absitinence from food might be a way for god to give me a little more insight into the lives of the homeless.
